August 15, 2025 ~ Friday (very late in the wee hours/to be another scorcher)
As I was whiling away too many (sleepless) hours waiting for Mr. Sandman to pay me a visit, I thought of writing this post. But knowing myself, I knew that if I began composing it, in my head, while lying in bed, in the wee hours of the morning, without writing it down – it would be frizzled and gone like a vampire at sunrise.
So are the thoughts in my brain. Here one minute – gone the next. It is one of life’s greatest mysteries to me!
Mystery … most commonly refers to the unknown, difficult to explain, and not understood.
And there are other things that continue to mystify me.
Like … why have an empty flowerpot on your doorstep or in your yard? If you’re not going to plant something in it – put it away! Or if the flowers have died – do the same! I see so many of them around here! What gives people?
When two people are walking – why is one always (ALWAYS!) 3-5 steps ahead of the other? If you are going for a walk together – why not WALK TOGETHER?
How does time go SO slowly when you are waiting for something or someone … and then hours fly by like minutes while you’re doing something enjoyable?
Why is it that the only time you get a flat tire or have car trouble is on a deserted road or near a shack where you are sure Freddy Krueger lives?
Why is it that while you eat spinach all the time, the only time a piece gets stuck between your teeth is just before you are meeting up with people, giving a presentation, or having your photo taken?
How is it that animals know when someone has died – just moments after the person has?
How do baby hummingbirds know what migration path to take if they’ve never taken it before?
Why is it that when you drop a piece of toast with peanut butter on it – it almost always lands peanut butter side down?
And though I know there are scientific reasons and explanations (but not to this brain!) – how do airplanes fly and how do ships keep afloat? For this logical brain, neither makes sense.
And, while I’m thinking about it all … what about Stonehenge? Who built that and how? We were in England, not far from it – but didn’t go. I didn’t want to ruin my perception of it with the zillion tourists flocking the area. I prefer to keep my images of that pristine (if only in my mind) and not as they are in reality.
And for that matter – what about crop circles? Hello ET!
So, that was where my brain was at 3am last night. Those might be mysteries to me … but it’s no mystery why I am dog-tired right now!
